Humans experience of the world can be decomposed into Cognition (what we think), Affects (whatwe feel) and Action (what we do). Until now, computers have been very successful in the Cognitive and Action domains: computers replace, extend and analyze how we act and think. Much less has been achieved in the domain of computerized recognition, interpretation, processing and simulation of affects and in particular human emotions. In this talk, I will present challenges, practical applications and directions in the domain of Affective Computing, computerized monitoring and leverage of emotions in text, how it goes hand in hand with Cognitive computing and why it might be the next revolution in human computer interaction.
